Poetry (writing and reading it) is one of the many ways that I find inspiration for songs. All forms of writing are connected and opening those pathways in my brain, exercising them every day, helps keep things flowing... (The goal is to write every day, but in all honesty, it is usually more intermittent than that.)
Here are a few short poems from Late Winter/Early Spring 2019. Most of the time my poetry is untitled.

The platform
wet and mossy
big drops
fall from rooftops
of the station
misty cars speed by
unaware
of waiting strangers.
Cracks in the sidewalk
form pathways
ripples
run
inside the edges.

I might be a vampire
feeding on my own self doubt
squinting at the light
dark adheres to my mind
bread dough
expanding
filling the pathways
soft, heavy
comfortable.

It's ok.
To make hard choices.
It's ok to skip a day...
stay cozy in bed.
It's ok to take life in your arms
and hold it like a child.
Tell it everything will be ok.
It's ok to let go.

Dapply sunlight shadows
where the ferns grow
in the moss on tree bark
softly resting cozy
in nooks and crannies
trunks and limbs
sweet raindrops
slide through the canopy
how far they fall
free
forming
pitter
patter
soothing white noise
lulls me to a
deep sleep.
